Gears of War Tips & Tricks

The best tip I can give you is to put a small piece of tape in the middle of your screen to act as the sights for your weapon, you can do it in 5 seconds and it won't harm your tv unless its a plasma.

The shotgun is only really useful at melee range, as it's a one or two hit kill. The machine gun is most useful at mid to long range. If your enemy is attempting to close with the shotgun to kill me, my usual plan is to back up and keep him at mid range and blindfire with the machine gun. With practice, you'll hit him much more than he'll hit you, and half a clip of active-reload machine gun will down him faster than he can down you with his shotgun. The key is keeping him at a range though, rolling backwards and simply turning and running if he gets too close. This works best against single opponents, if they gang up on you with shotguns, your best bet will be to whip out your own and say a prayer to Jesus, because the odds are youre going down.

Use cover wisely - without it you are already dead. Learn where the weapons are on the map and watch for them being picked up - if its not your team then at least you have an idea of where the enemy is.

Dont give up!

How to Survive in Halo 3

1. Jump Around

There’s nothing harder to hit than a moving target, especially if your are moving vertically as well as horizontally. Never stand still, you never know who is out there trying to snipe you.

2. Learn the Maps

Setup a custom private (invitation only) game and take your time exploring the levels. Search for great weapon types, look for good sniping spots, and get a “feel” for the overall layout. This will also help a lot in team games and learning how to flank your enemies.

3. Get in Close

If you are behind an enemy, don’t waste your ammo! Hit the melee button (”B” by default) to strike them in the back of the head. 1 hit kills.

4. Splash Damage

If you have an explosive weapon such as a rocket launcher, aim for the feet of your opponent. It’s more likely to hit your enemy due to the splash damage.

5. Aim for the Head

Work on your accuracy and try to go for head shots. It is the quickest and most effective way of taking down your enemy. This works best for most weapons, but if you are using a shotgun try aiming for the chest.

6. Use Vehicles

Be careful with this one. Vehicles are best in open areas with little or no chance of getting stuck. They are a big target and make a lot of noise (making you easy to find), but if you ram into a few players you can gain some easy kills.

7. Weapon Combos

Experiment with weapon combinations to suit your situation. Usually dual wielding pistols is best for close range (with maximum damage), whereas rifles are best for medium-long distance.

8. Grenades!

Learning to master grenades takes time, but it’s definitely worth practicing as much as possible. Try to aim for where your enemy will be (within 2 seconds or so) rather than where they actually are. This will also help in slightly laggier games.

9. Teaming Up

This tip is linked to number 8. When in a team it is common (and a great tactic) to stay close together. However, be careful not to stay too close to your team mates as it leaves you open to a total wipeout. One luckily thrown grenade can wipe out a team of 4 in seconds. Try to keep a little distance apart.

10. NEVER give up!

You have an enemy up close emptying their gun into your face and your gun just ran out of ammo. Don’t run away! Charge into them and smack them in the face (”B” button), run circles around them and try to throw that last grenade before your food for the crows! You may even get lucky and take out a few people after death. This has worked for me many times and is definitely worth a go. Don’t go down without a fight!

Breeding tropical fish

I have reasonable success with breeding different strains of guppys, platys and mollys and would just like to tell you how I do it.

All strains are kept apart in seperate tanks (otherwise they would all interbreed) and I try to keep a record of when a particular female last dropped fry so that after roughly 28 days she can go into the breeding trap.
If you look at the underside of a female you can sometimes see the fry ready to come out. Guppy females seem to go a bit square looking in the belly area, which I suppose is the birth canal forming. I find that most females behave differently than they normally do - so if you see a gravid female suddenly start hiding then its a good indication shes nearly ready.
I prefer to use the larger double traps with the divider taken out so the fish can still swim about normally and get a bit of exercise.
Microworms are fed into this regulary so she has plenty to eat. If after four or five days she still has not dropped her young then I release her back in the tank - I find it better to endanger the fry than risk losing the fish through stress. I always have plenty java moss in my tanks for the fry to hide amongst so its usually not too bad.
Once a day at least I try and have a look around with the hand net and sometimes get as many as 10 or more unexpected fry. If you move your hands up the side of the tank you can easily spot fry as they zip away. Any fry caught either in the traps or by net are then put in a bare growing on tank with no gravel so its easier to clean and see any deformed or dead fry. The fry are fed microflake, microworms and crushed hi-protein pellets until they are big enough to survive back with adults. When they are about 1cm long and can I can discern the colours I catch them with a clear plastic ladel and put them in the bigger tanks. Just before release the adults get fed well just to give the fry that extra edge. As I do not use salt I usually get only 1 or 2 males out of every 10 fry.
When the temperature and light levels drop they seem to give up breeding and from October to March I get very few fry, this is when I consolidate all the fish into just 2 tanks, males and females. I do this mainly to save money on electricity but it also gives the females a good rest. At the start of the season they get fed plenty of live foods to bring them up to condition. I also try to change at least 25% of the water in all tanks weekly and make sure they all get fed a varied diet of good quality food.

hey thanks for stopping by :)
